About

iShotPunk is the code name for a music project lead by composer Dani Zuniga. The musical style is a blend of orchestral instrumentation, blipy electronica and rock guitar, all topped with vocal harmony and hip hop like hype.

I am looking for 3 more vocalists to join the line up, one male and two females.

Dani’s Bio

1980, Birth: I was born Daniel Zuniga Jr. at Scipps Mercy hospital in San Diego, 3 weeks premature and weighed 3lb 3oz.

1993 Operation IV: I remember sitting in the back of Pats classroom with my friend Sebastian Allen, who always wore Misfits, and OPIV shirts. I asked him what OPIV was. He played a few songs for me and made me realize that Punk was not that music I was hearing on MTV played by guys with long hair in tights.

1994-1998 Cereal, Toasters and Concerts: This was the beginning of my musical journey.  Early in high school I heard the lyrics “My love life was getting so bland, there are only so many ways you can make love with your hand. Some time it makes me want to laugh, sometimes I want to take my toaster in the bath“. From that moment on I fell in love with Blink 182 and attended Blink shows that had maybe 50 people attending. In my sophomore year in High School I joined a band called “Cereal”. I was the drummer because I had drums. Little did I know I was not a drummer at the time.

1999, Release of Enema of the State: This is where the name IShotPunk came from. During my freshman year in college Blink 182’s “Enema of the State” was released. I was so excited the band I grew up listening to made it. Fellow students at UCSC told me that punk was dead because people listened to bands like Blink 182 and Green Day.  At the dorms I met Simar Bal who has introduced me to most of my favorite bands and been my writing partner since.

2001-2003, The Guru: Late 2001, I was accepted to the Electronic Music Program at UCSC. Peter Elsea the head professor of the program told me “you might not have rhythm but you have timing” “Your music is very touching and personal”. I must have spent half of my waking life in those studios. Propping the door and hiding from the security sweep when the studio closed at midnight. In summer of 2003 I produced the Sidewall EP of which I was a guitarist for.

2003-2006, Forged: In 2003 I took a job as a Audio Engineer/Composer at Santa Cruz Games. Writing music for Video Games taught me how to use music to spur emotion. I also was forced out of my box, writing orchestral music, influencing a lot of the style you can hear in the new recordings.

2006-2008, The City: Looking for greener pastures, Simar and I left the smokey town of Santa Cruz for San Francisco, the epicenter of the video game industry. After a few years of solely writing music for video games. The bug came back I was a better song writer. It was now time to perform and write songs that I wanted to write.

Present…: I met Anna D by chance when I was perusing Criagslist for small time work. She had posted a video cover of the Ingrid Michelson song “Die Alone” captivated by her powerful voice I knew I found one of the cogs in the “iShotPunk” project.
